If you think about it, anytime you learn a new skill, you go through stages. Like any hierarchal pyramid, as you move up from the foundation, you are gaining something.
Do you remember learning to ride a bike? No doubt you were a little scared to try. A grown-up may have held onto your seat at first, and run alongside you. Once on your own, after a few tries, you may have found yourself wobbly operating a "two-wheeler" down the sidewalk or driveway on your own steam. (You may have even fallen a few times!) But, now, do you ever have to think about how to ride a bike? Or get help remembering how to do it? Probably not!
Using this analogy, let's use the pyramid: the "awareness" stage was figuring out that other kids were riding bikes without training wheels. Somewhere along the way, you decided you wanted to do that, too! You acquired the knowledge and training you needed from somewhere. Then, you practiced until you got good at it. And finally, you expanded on your bike-riding abilities, to the point where you not only rode well, but didn't even have to think about how to do it anymore and may have added some "finesse" to your bike-riding skills or additional skills like riding with no hands or popping a wheelie.
All learning starts with the awareness that a new level of skill or knowledge is needed. Your confidence in this particular area is usually low. Working with a coach, you can develop a personalized plan for acquiring the skills, knowledge and practice you need to "master" this new learning. At Praxis Coaching, we specialize in taking people "up" this competency pyramid, to the highest levels of confidence and mastery they personally desire.
